Maavashu MP and the Vice President of Progressive-Congress Coalition, Mohamed Saeed, has been arrested in the protest held in Malé last night by opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
PPM said 21 people were arrested from the protest along with Saeed.
Although many arrests were made during the opposition's demonstration in Malé over the past two days, they were soon released.

Opposition leader and former President Abdulla Yameen being sentenced to prison in connection with the Vaavu atoll Aarah case has caused an uproar in PPM, with members taking to the streets of the capital in a series of protests.
Yameen, who has also been given the opposition coalition's presidential ticket for next year's presidential election, was sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Criminal Court after being convicted of money laundering and bribery with a fine of USD 5 million ordered to be paid within a period of six months.
