India's Minister of External Affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has extended thanks to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for the warm welcome received in his current visit to the Maldives.

Minister Jaishankar reposted a post by President Muizzu on social media X and thanked him for his words and the warm welcome.

He went on to reassert his commitment towards further strengthening ties between India and Maldives.

Minister Jaishankar is currently on a three day visit to the Maldives on invitation from Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer.

He paid a courtesy call on President Muizzu earlier today.

After the meeting, President Muizzu shared a post on X where he extended special thanks to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for the continued aid and assistance they provide to the Maldives.

The President asserted that he would work towards further strengthening Maldives-India ties in various areas, with the promise of a bright future being brought to the region collaboratively.

During the visit, Minister Jaishankar has arranged concessions on the repayment of USD 50 million in T-bills to the State Bank of India, as well as expanding food products quota, and facilitating the use of the remaining funds through Line of Credit.

Although bilateral relations between India and Maldives faced some setbacks during the start of President Muizzu's administration, the two countries have since worked on rebuilding the historical friendly relations.
