Ahmed Rishwan, who ran for and won the Male' City Council Member for Henveiru Central constituency, has joined the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).

On the 13th of this month, Rishwan competed in the council by-election on a ticket from opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Rishwan has handed over his PNC membership form to President Muizzu this afternoon.

From the four vacancies at Male' City Council, PNC won two, while the other two went to MDP.

While MDP candidate Adam Azim won the mayoral seat and Rishwan won the Henveiru Central seat, the other two seats were filled by ruling coalition aligned candidates.

The swearing in ceremony for the Mayor and the three other members is scheduled to be held at 20.30 hrs tonight.

Out of the nineteen members of the Male' City Council, a member of The Democrats, as well as another member of MDP, have joined PNC. With these new additions, thirteen out of the nineteen members in the council are now affiliated with the ruling coalition.
