The parliament, on Sunday, approved the appointment of Ibrahim Shaheeb, the current Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the new High Commissioner of Maldives to Singapore.
The designation was green lighted by 58 parliamentarians after the report compiled by the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations was approved.
Shaheeb has filled various positions in the foreign service throughout his diplomatic career, starting off in 1994 as a secretary at the Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka.
The position of High Commissioner to Singapore was left vacant after his predecessor, Dr Abdulla Mausoom, was recently appointed as the new Minister of Tourism.
