Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has begun investigating a case related to the project of the eco-city "RasMale'" developed through reclaiming land from Fushidhiggaru Falhu.

The Commission had confirmed with Mihaaru News that they are probing into this case that was brought forward by a citizen.

Former President Abdulla Yameen had heavily condemned the Commission recently due to their delay in proceeding inspection of the case.

Yameen had remarked that the RasMale' project cannot be progressed without utilizing the funds of the State and alleged that the procedures of the project presently enforced by the government indicates the involvement of corruption.

However, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had reiterated that his administration will never perform acts of corruption and assured that he himself will be the first take action against such an occurrence.

The State had incorporated an amount of MVR 400 million required for the RasMale' land reclamation project within the State budget for the year, however, opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) that holds the majority of the parliament had passed the budget after excluding this amount. Through the votes of the MDP parliamentarians, this fund was distributed to the development of Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu.

President Muizzu has declared that the purpose of launching the RasMale' project is to secure housing opportunities for all citizens residing in the Male' region. He had remarked that this project was commenced so rapidly because developing the site and ensuring housing for the people within the next five years can only be facilitated by beginning the project at the possible earliest.

Opposition MDP had also directed much criticism regarding this issue.

The party had asserted that the the value of the land allocated in a rush from the most expensive locations in the Male' region to the company contracted to reclaim land in RasMale' as compensation for their services reaches an amount of MVR 70 billion to MVR 100 billion.

The party had maintained that this is a relatively large amount of money that is lost by the State and asserted that this was a MVR 70 billion worth act of corruption.
