Maldives signs agreement with a Chinese company to establish municipal facilities in the biggest housing project of current administration in Rasmale’, as well as the previous administration’s housing project in Gulhifalhu.
The work of providing water and electricity services to Rasmale’ and Gulhifalhu was contracted to China Machinery Engineering Group Corporation (CMEC).
This agreement, signed on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and his team’s trip to China, was signed by Minister for Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib on behalf of Maldives.
The government has not released additional details regarding the agreement so far.
During this visit to China, the country pledged their Belt and Road Initiative will support the development plan prepared by President Muizzu.
President Muizzu, who is currently on his maiden state visit to China, signed 20 MoUs with the Chinese government on Wednesday. One of the MoUs pertains to the construction of a social housing unit in Fushidhigarufalhu or Rasmale'. As part of the MoU, 30,000 housing units will be constructed in Rasmale'.
