Hammad will serve a total of 14 years in prison for his crime.
Ismail Hammad, a man who raped a 12 year old girl after marrying her out of court and impregnated her resulting in the girl giving birth at the age of 13, was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The child gave birth in 2018 after Hammad linked himself to the minor in the name of marriage and engaging in a sexual relationship with her. The case came to light in December of 2019 during an investigation which was prompted after Hammad was attacked in a religious conflict.
Following the attack, Hammad was treated for his injuries at the hospital, but was arrested immediately after his discharge.
The verdict issued at the Criminal Court today declared that Hammad is guilty of touching a child's body with a sexual intent - a charge levelled against him by prosecution.
According to the Special Provisions Act to Deal with Child Sex Abuse Offenders, touching a child's body with a sexual intent would result in a prison sentence of 10 to 14 years.
According to the Act, Hammad's verdict carried the maximum punishment in the case. After accounting for the duration he has already spent in lock up, the time he has to serve would be nine years, four months and 15 days.
Following the discovery of the case, the state took custody of the minor, the baby she delivered and all other children in that family.
Both parents of the child are also now in jail.
