Transport Ministry stated that affixing taxi meters in cabs is a service that everyone is looking forward to, including drivers and passengers. They assured that it will soon be introduced.
Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has stated that affixing taxi meters in taxis is desired by everyone and assured that this service will be introduced in the country shortly.
Speaking in a program on State media, Deputy Minister at Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Ali Mohamed said that the government is approaching the efforts to affix taxi meters as a matter of high priority.
He revealed that researches have been done in order to conduct this work and assured that findings of the research had been shared with relevant institutions.
As such, the ministry has held discussions with taxi drivers, taxi centers and taxi app operators regarding this development and assured that their cooperation and support is also extended towards these efforts.
Highlighting that this is a service highly demanded by drivers, passengers and the government alike, the Deputy Minister stated that the challenges in providing taxicab services will also be resolved with the introduction of this meter.
Although a date for the introduction remains undetermined, the Deputy Minister affirms that this service will be established very soon under desirable standards.
In order to resolve problems faced by taxi drivers and passengers, the government has even previously mandated affixation of taximeters inside taxis and composed a regulation stipulating such as well. However, the service remains unpracticed till date.
