Today, Parliament has voted in favour of appointing former senior Maldives National Defence Forces (MNDF) Officer Tholhath Hassan as Sergeant-at-Arms at the Parliament.
The vote was passed unanimously with the votes of 35 members of parliament present during today's sitting.
Tholhath, of Galolhu Saatanuge, last served as a Major General in MNDF before retiring from the defence force. Since then, he has served on the Board of Directors of STELCO during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.
As per the organizational structure of the Parliament, Sergeant-at-Arms is the second most senior position after the post of Secretary General.
Mohamed Haleem, who previously filed the position, was suspended and later removed from his position on suspicion of fixing concealed listening devices in the Speaker and Deputy Speaker's chambers.
