CEO of Bank of Maldives (BML) Karl Stumke submitted his resignation yesterday.
The bank said that his last day at work will be September 21. He will be participating in the Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled for the day as well.
Stumke is out of the country at present, but continues to fulfill the responsibilities of his role.
He comes with 35 years of experience in the banking field and was appointed CEO of BML in October 2022.
With Stumke's resignation, Deputy CEO of BML Aishath Nooradeen will take over management of the bank until a new CEO is appointed.
After BML's decision on August 25 to cancel foreign transactions via MVR accounts, a decision they later revoked, allegations arose that a financial coup had been attempted together with political entities. Police are currently conducting an investigation into this matter.
