Major General Ibrahim Hilmy has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Force by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The President's Office revealed that Major General Ibrahim Hilmy had been appointed as the Chief of Defence Force following the retirement of Lt. Gen. Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef. A ceremony was held on Thursday at the President's Office where President Dr Muizzu presented Major General Hilmy with the letter of his appointment.
Alongside Hilmy's appointment, Brigadier General Ahmed Giyas of the Marine Corps has now assumed the position of Vice Chief of Defence Force.
Today's new appointments to MNDF top brass comes at the heels of the honorable retirement of former Defence Chief Lt. Gen. Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef at the age of 60, following a distinguished career of having served MNDF for 39 long years.
According to the Maldives Armed Forces Act, the position of Chief of Defence Force has a maximum age limit for those holding office set at 60 years.
