The driver of a vehicle sustained injuries after it collided with the solar panel structure installed in Hulhumale', located at the end of the Malé - Hulhumalé highway.
Police received information around 9:00 hrs that a car traveling from Hulhumalé Midhili Magu crashed into the infrastructure designed for installing solar panels.
The injured driver is currently receiving medical treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital, although the specific details of the injuries remain undisclosed.
Photos and videos circulated on social media displayed significant damage to the front of the taxi, with the structure designated for solar panels also affected.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident.
The Malé - Hulhumalé highway has witnessed multiple accidents involving vehicles and solar panels in the past, resulting in damage to both.
To enhance public safety, there is a pressing need to relocate the solar panels from the highway, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment, a World Bank-funded project estimated at $11 million (MVR 169 million).
Despite nearing completion, talks with the World Bank are underway to address the removal of solar panels from the area, as reported by the Ministry of Environment last month.
