President asks for an amicable campaign, devoid of lies

President has requested to embrace amicability and honesty during the campaign for the parliamentary elections as Ramadan is near and to abstain from dishonest and vile conduct. He advised the people to redeem and develop themselves during this holy month.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has implored to conduct an amicable parliamentary campaign and abstain from speech that twists the truth.

Speaking at Naifaru during his tour across Lhaviyani atoll begun Saturday morning, the President highlighted that the month of Ramadan is nigh and to embrace truthful, amicable language amid campaign proceedings and to enshrine good manners in approach of the month.

The President had stated that baseless rumors are being spread through unverified and anonymous websites and insisted that such acts must be refrained from.

“They are written in Dhivehi letters, in Dhivehi language. Therefore, I am concluding that it is Maldivians who are running these websites,” the President said.

“I implore to abstain from giving any leeway for lies under any circumstance.”

The President had additionally maintained that as Muslims, the Quran also mandates to abstain from such vile conduct and to redeem oneself. He had further insisted that the peace required for the nation can only be brought with the redemption and improvement of one’s personal character.

“There is no evolution nor peace for our country without redeeming and developing one’s own self. Extremely large ports can be built, roads can also be developed; all these materialistic developments can be facilitated, however, if one’s own self is in a ditch, there is no meaning to these developments,” the President said.

He had further underscored that this month of Ramadan is the best chance to bring forth this desirable development to redeem oneself and requested of all the people to employ this opportunity to its best.

“Bringing forth this meaning development is a matter in one’s own hands. The biggest opportunity for acquiring this is this month of Ramadan. I implore all citizens to fully utilize this opportunity.”

President Muizzu had previously emphasized that he believes it is important to obtain a majority of the parliament to resolve major issues such as housing and expressed hope that the people will make this possible.

The President had initiated a pledge to launch a project of 400 housing units and 80 lands plots from the reclaimed region in the island of Naifaru during his visit there and further assured to reclaim and develop 45 hectares of land from the Naifaru beach as vowed to the island’s residential community during the presidential elections last year.

He had assured that the housing issues faced by Naifaru will be resolved to ensure a permanent solution for their housing troubles.
