Kudahuvadhoo MIRA office broken into, cheques stolen

Maldives Police Service disclosed on Thursday morning, that several cheques and cash were stolen after robbers broke into the safe of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) office in Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Atoll.

The incident was reported at 0930 hrs in the morning.

According to police, the safe contained four cheques, MVR 1000, USD 100, 4,682 revenue stamps and 50 annual fee stickers. Police stated that the amount of money in the four checks totalled to MVR 249,672.

However, no arrests have been made in relation to the case so far.

Incidences of theft and burglary have increased across the country during the month of Ramadan. Sums of MVR 150,000 and USD 15,000 were stolen from an individual passing by City Online Asia in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale', as recently as late Wednesday.

Although it was identified that the act was perpetrated by a group of four helmet-clad men on two motorcycles, no arrests have been made in connection to the crime.
