The Maldives Meteorological Service announced yesterday that Maldives has observed the highest rainfall this year, with the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours recorded in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Kaadedhdhoo.
The Met Office said the highest rainfall within a single day this year was recorded on July 31, in Raa atoll Alifushi with a record of 157 mm of rainfall.
Kaadedhoo had a record of 124.8 mm of rainfall with temperatures recorded between 23.9-24.4 degrees Celsius at 2:00 pm yesterday.
In addition to Kaadedhoo, the next highest rainfall within 24 hours was recorded in Faafu atoll Bileddhoo, with record of 58.2 mm of rain.
A yellow alert has been issued for the next 24 hours as the weather is expected to be severe. The weather is expected to be clear later this week.
Seafarers are advised to exercise caution due to the severe weather conditions.
