Opposition coalition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) pledges to audit all prisons in the first hundred days of his regime, should he win the upcoming September 23 elections.

Answering audience questions on RaajjeTV's political awareness TV program 'Raiyyithunge Dharubaaru', Ibu expressed his opinion that Male prisons were no longer worthy of housing prisoners.

He followed by declaring that an opposition-led government would renovate the prisons and provide adequate facilities to all prisoners.

According to Ibu, local jail cells failed to provide sufficient protection to the prisoners even from the heat of the sun.

Pointing out the significance of the number of deaths known to occur in local prisons, Ibu asserted the importance of making arrangements to avoid such situations and of the prisons corresponding to set regulations.

In response to a question posed on 'Raiyyithunge Dharubaaru' pertaining to 'Aasandha' the national health scheme, Ibu stated his wish for its steady maintenance.

"One of the most frequent issues presented by civilians during our canvassing concerned the health scheme", said Ibu.

Ibu firmly stated that he would provide Aasandha to all Maldivians regardless of political allegiance and that he planned for the service to cater to Maldivians residing in India and Sri Lanka as well.

Shedding light on the prevalent housing issue in the Maldives, Ibu declared that at the end of a possible five-year term, he would ensure that housing was provided for all Maldivians and that financial subsidies would be made available for people struggling to pay rent. He also revealed plans to issue loans with monthly payments of MVR 5000 at an interest rate of 6 percent to supplement the issue of housing.

Addressing questions regarding the salaries of civil servants, Ibu elaborated on plans to increase remuneration as well as to implement a 'service allowance' payment scheme to reward resort workers.

In addition, Ibu also described plans to increase allowances afforded to persons living with disabilities in the Maldives, as well as easy to acquire, small loans for students receiving education in foreign countries.

"I have made 150 campaign stops during this election and I have witnessed very 'hopeful' spirits on every island. You can feel the people's need for a change. The people are well prepared for September 23 and that is the day change begins! With hopes for victory, we shall begin our efforts to implement the plans of development on Sunday itself", said Ibu.

Seen in attendance at the 'Raiyyithunge Dharubaaru' program, was Ibu's wife Fazna Ahmed, as well as his running mate Faisal Naseem and the respective leaders of the various factions of the opposition coalition.
