The High Court has rejected President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's defamation case against the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) and Raajje TV.

The case was filed on the basis that false claims infringing the President's electoral rights, were made by two MDP members ahead of the September 23 presidential elections.

The President's legal team is yet to reveal further information regarding the apex court's decision to reject the charges.

The case, which was submitted on 16 September, was filed against MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef and Secretary General Anas Abdul Sattar, for accusing President Yameen of being involved in an illegal oil trade between North Korea and local company Green Box Pvt Ltd, during a press conference.

Charges were also made against Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) for allowing Raajje TV to broadcast the controversial press conference.
