Ahmed Aslam, the Secretary General of the Raa atoll Maduvvari Island Council, tragically passed away in an accident on Sunday.
Aslam, 40, was struck while he was standing near the back wall of a garage that a pickup was reversing into, the police said.
The pickup and the garage belonged to the island council.
According to a source from the island, Aslam got stuck between the garage wall and the back of the pickup and was crushed.
"The pickup's hydraulic lift was lowered when it was backing up into the garage," the source said.
Reportedly, the incident caused one of his legs to be almost completely severed from the thigh.
He died at the Ungoofaru Regional Hospital; his oxygen levels were dangerously low even when he was taken there.
Aslam, a father of three, worked at the Ministry of Home Affairs for several years. He was appointed Secretary General of the Council about six months ago.
