Presidential candidate for People’s National Congress (PNC) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said on Thursday night that he does not believe being president is a great honour but rather a trust that has been placed by the people.

Speaking at a campaign event held in Raa atoll Hulhudhuffaaru for the second round of the presidential election to be held on September 30, Dr. Muizzu said he wishes to bring forward a just administration. He said justice can only be achieved by ensuring all their rights to the people and if people are assured and believed they have been delivered justice.

Dr. Muizzu said that under his presidency, he would listen to every citizen and ensure that they get their dues.

"I don't believe that under any circumstances, governance is a great honour and this position is an privilege. There is no honour or prestige for this position that I have applied for. As long as the person doesn't realise that the reason for seeking that honour and prestige is a huge responsibility," he said.

"We have to take over the great values the people hand over. People have to take on a huge responsibility, which is a huge duty."

Dr. Muizzu said that he aspired to come to power because he was confident that he could return to the people with the utmost honesty, fulfilling their rights and needs, and safeguarding the significant trust that had been placed in him.

He said his full intention was to do what the people wanted with honesty. He said they will do things equally for everyone despite the ideologies their parties may hold,” Dr. Muizzu, who is also the Mayor of Malé said.

He expressed the belief that the situation in the country could still be changed and that hope had not been lost. By reviving the economy, the country could also enhance its revenue generation. Dr. Muizzu additionally said that under his leadership, the nation's independence and development could be guaranteed.

"We will do things in the same manner for everyone, regardless of their ideology or party," he said.
