Motorcycles set on fire in Male'

A row of motorcycles have been set on fire in Male' last night. This is the second such incident within this month.

Although no persons were hurt, the motorcycles have been burnt beyond use.

Police said that they received reports of the fire at around 00:34 hrs last ngiht. The incident occurred on the street Meheli Goalhi in Henveiru, where Coffee Residence is located.

Police said that five motorcycles parked at the location were set on fire and burnt beyond use.

Maldives National Defence Force said that firefighters of their Fire and Rescue Service were able to put out the fire around 00:42 hrs.

Police said that the incident is under further investigation.

Earlier, on June 3, motorcycles in a parking lot near the Parliament building were also set on fire. A 36 year old Maldivian male was arrested in relation to that case and is being kept in remand in custody for 30 days while the investigation proceeds.

While seven motorcycles and a van were damaged n the earlier fire, three of the were entirely burnt.
