STELCO to establish electric vehicle charging station

The station will be modeled after South Korea's approach, which has the largest number of public charging stations, with one station installed for every three cars.

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has announced plans to establish a charging station for electric vehicles.

STELCO said that the station will be opened on Dhonandharaadha Magu, adjacent to STELCO head office.

STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy said that the charging station will be set up soon and will be open to the public.

The initiative aims to promote the use of electric vehicles to reduce the carbon footprint and provide incentives to both prospective and existing users, in alignment with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's environmental policies to ensure a sustainable future, Fahmy added.

"The charging station is already under construction and will cater to both four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles," Fahmy said.

He added that the Male' City Council has assured full cooperation for the project.

The station will be modeled after South Korea's approach, which has the largest number of public charging stations, with one station installed for every three cars.

This initiative was initially proposed by President Muizzu during his tenure as Male' City Mayor, with the Transport Committee of the Male' City Council conducting studies and plans for the project.
