The South Asian Games, slated to take place in Lahore, Pakistan next year have been postponed to March 2024 by the South Asian Olympic Council (SAOC).

The choice was made by SAOC members this week in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, at the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) conference.

The SAOC member countries made the decision this week at the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) conference held in Phnom Penh, mainly due to this year’s Asian Games being been postponed to 2023.

Member Countries claimed that since the South Asian Games were moved to September/November of the following year, competing in two competitions back-to-back would not be cost prohibitive.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, scheduled for September 2020, have also been postponed.

Pakistan's Olympic Association Secretary Muhammad Khalid Mahmood was quoted by the country's "The News International" saying that the Games were postponed until March 2024 with all members agreement and have left it to Pakistan to set a new date.

The South Asian Federation Games (SAF Games) which began in 1984 was last held in 2019 in Nepal. Recently, the Games have been postponed due to a date not being set.

In the most recent competitions, Maldives took home one gold and four bronze medals. Hassan Saaid won gold in the 100 meter race.
