MTC prepares to launch RTL services in Shavyani Atoll

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) prepares to launch Raajje Transport Link's (RTL) services in Shaviyani Atoll.

The speedboats required to provide the service had set off for Shaviyani Atoll on Sunday.

MTCC said they will start preliminary ferry rides on Tuesday, to test the seven routes planned for Shaviyani atoll. This would mark as service provided for all the atolls allocated in the first phase of the RTL project.

A total of 17 speedboats are to be used in the first phase of RTL.

Similar to how the service was launched in other atolls, passengers will not be charged a fare for the first week when the service is being tested in Shaviyani atoll. Feedback from customers will be gathered to improve the route and service available.

Trips within the atoll will range between MVR 35 to MVR 100, priced for Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu atoll - the other two atolls in phase one of RTL services. Prices for trips between atolls varies between MVR 100 and MVR 150.

General Manager of Marine Transport Division of MTCC Ismail Fariq said that RTL services in Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu atolls have received a lot of customer support.

RTL services is set to be launched in three distinctive phases. With the start of service in Shaviyani atoll, the first phase of the project is completed. Fariq said they have prepared to launch phase two now.

According to MTCC, all atolls in the Maldives will be connected by an integrated national public ferry network by September of 2023. The project will cost over MVR 800 million.
