Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) adds a total of 36 new mini-buses to its public transportation fleet.

Chief Executive Officer of MTCC Adam Azim noting about the procurement of the mini-buses, and its arrival on Saturday, July 16, said that "the wait is over."

The vehicles hold a reported passenger capacity of 20 to 25 passengers, and will be deployed in Addu City, Fuvahmulah and Laamu atoll in addition to the Greater Male' Region.

MTCC further reports that the buses are being cleared out from the commercial harbor venue, after which they will be sprung into action.

An integrated bus transportation network within the Greater Male' Region had been an important campaign pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The government had in 2019, contracted MTCC with the task of launching the bus service keeping true to the President's pledge.

Ministry of Transport was tasked with conducting necessary surveys prior to the project. However, the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak interrupted the efforts for an indefinite period.

Speaking about the planned bus transportation initiative, MTCC CEO confirms that the buses will make stops at designated bus-stops every 10 minutes with routes linking both Male' City and Hulhumale'.
