Urbanco has successfully completed the construction of a new jail in Himmafushi. This development serves as a crucial Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project undertaken by Urbanco, aiming to replace the existing jail quarters.
Simultaneously, the government has made a decision to relocate the jail currently adjacent to the upcoming Dharumavantha School, which is yet to be constructed. By relocating the jail, the government aims to ensure a conducive environment for the school's establishment and operation.
The company stated that, as per the request of the President's Office, they have undertaken the reconstruction of an existing building to serve as the new prison.
The building will be divided into four blocks, with each block having the capacity to accommodate up to 16 inmates. To meet their needs, the building will be equipped with 12 bathroom facilities. Additionally, Urbanco will also be Urbanco ensuring the facility's electricity supply.
Following its completion, Urbanco has successfully handed over the newly constructed building to Maldives Correctional Service.
"Although our primary focus remains on Hulhumalé development projects, this particular endeavor falls within the scope of our comprehensive Beyond Hulhumalé Plan and is being developed with the supervision of our dedicated community response team," said Urbanco.
The corrections office has also been relocated to part of the Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu building, which house the national radio station.
