The Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Tuesday urged the general public to exercise caution due to the spread of conjunctivitis in the Maldives.
According to HPA, there has been an increase in people seeking treatment for the viral illness. The agency requested that the public be wary of the symptoms and take precautionary measures.
- Pink or red colour in the whites of the eye
- Swelling of conjunctiva, which is the thin waterline around the eye and inside the eyelids
- Crusting of eyelids and lashes, especially in the morning
- Discharge, or mucus forming in the eye
- Itching, irritation, burning and the urge to rub the eyes
- Wash hands frequently
- Frequently cleaning household items that people touch often- Avoid touching the eyes with unwashed hands
- Properly disposing of tissue and other items used for personal grooming
The HPA urged the public to seek professional medical assistance if they exhibit symptoms. If an individual is exhibiting symptoms, the agency advised them to stay at home to avoid spreading the illness.
