15,164 land slot applications and 20,697 forms for flats submitted

The Planning Ministry has announced that 35,861 forms have been submitted under the Gedhoruveriya scheme for the Greater ​​Malé region.

A total of 1,000 land slots from Hulhumalé, 2,000 from Gulhifalhu reclaimed area and 4,000 flats from the housing project being constructed at Hulhumalé are to be granted. On May 26, 2022, the submissions portal was made available. The deadline for submissions which was initially September 26 was extended to October 15, 2022.

Within the deadline, 35,861 forms were submitted which include 15,164 forms for land slots and 20,697 forms submitted for flats. From over 20,000 applications, 14,489 forms were submitted for three bedroom flats while 6208 forms were submitted for its two bedroom counterpart.

President Ibrahim Solih has pledged 5,000 land slots to be made available from the Greater Male' region, and applications for the remaining 2,000 land plots will be announced in the near future.

Providing land plots from the Greater Male' Region for the public is made available after 40 years, which is a presidential promise of President Solih.

The minimum size of a plot under the Gedhoruveriya scheme is 1,225 square foot. However, if a joint application is submitted with family members, each person can add 400 square feet to their land plot.

According to the Planning Ministry up to 4,000 square feet of land can be added.

The government is only allocating flats to residents of Male' City and those who have been living in the capital for more than 15 years.
