Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) confirms hospitalizing a minor after being tested positive to dengue fever.

Children's specialist Dr. Ahmed Faisal at the hospital confirmed hospitalizing an infant sometime during Wednesday evening, August 3.

He also notified that the patient had required blood transfusions due to blood dispelled with vomit.

Earlier, two other minors were hospitalized in the ICU ward of the hospital for testing positive to dengue fever. Dr. Faisal confirms both patients have been recovering since treatment.

"This year dengue complications are more than last 3 years. Many [children] are requiring IC care and blood transfusions," Dr. Faisal tweeted.

Dengue fever cases are on the rise owing to surge in mosquito populations. Mosquito populations usually surge amid rainy seasons due to increase in stagnant water.

Apart from dengue, health authorities report a surge in viral fever and diarrhea as well.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) of the Maldives advised the public to take cautionary measures to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

The authority had urged from the public to use mosquito repellents as well as draining stagnant water containers.
