The Criminal Court has issued an order to remand an expatriate pending trial in a case involving the kidnapping of another expatriate.

Mohamed Arif Hossain, a 37-year-old Bangladeshi national, was apprehended in connection with the case following an order issued by the Criminal Court on Saturday at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The court, in its directive, stated that there was sufficient evidence against Mohamed, substantiating his involvement. The victim's statements and photographs taken at the scene indicated Mohamed's participation in kidnapping, threatening, and engaging in violent acts.

The justice determined that Mohamed, residing unlawfully in the Maldives, posed a risk of fleeing, leading to the decision to detain him for the safety of the community.

According to the prosecution, Mohamed, along with others, was implicated in the crime and participated in the torture of the victim.

Instances of expatriates resorting to kidnapping and threats over financial matters are not uncommon, and arrests in such cases involving them have occurred in the past.
