State has pressed charges against an individual suspect of blazing the motorized vehicle of a local police officer.
The officer had intervened a suspected drug peddler from Noonu atoll Milandhoo, while the arson attack is believed to have been in retaliation.
The blazing incident was reported on 17 February 2022, in which Noonu atoll Miladhoo Police Department's desk in-charge Sergeant Mohamed Areesh's motorbike was torched.
Authorities apprehended three individuals in suspicion of the case; aged 22, 27 and 31. Since then authorities had released two.
The media officer and public prosecutor from Prosecutor General's Office Mr. Ahmed Shafeeu on Sunday, 08th May, attested the prosecution charges against the suspect.
The individual is tried under section 220 of Maldives Penal Code for the property damage, which may subject the accused a jail time of 9 months and 18 days.
