Inclusive of the bid committees of IGMH and Prosecutor General's Office, Finance Ministry suspends 298 bid committees.

Finance Ministry's Procurement Policy Board had determined that as per of Article 10.13 of the Public Accounts Regulation, elected officials and political appointees cannot be a part of bid committees of any institution.

As per ministry's regulations, all bid committees have to be registered within their portal and formally put together only after the ministry approves it. They had sent circulars to inform all state institutions of the new regulations on September 9, 2021 as well.

However, as the bid committees were not up to regulation, finance ministry had decided to suspend them.

According to the ministry, most of the suspended bid committees are those of the island council's.

Institutions with suspended bid committees cannot award any project to any party during the suspended period.

Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has previously said that political appointees and elected officials are not allowed to be on bid committees in order to ensure they do not influence procurement procedures.

This change was brought after the corruption of the health ministry was exposed for when they ordered for ventilators earlier last year when the Covid crisis hit the nation.
