Dhiraagu earns MVR 210 million in profits

Telecom giant Dhiraagu earned a net profit of MVR 210 million in the second quarter of 2019.

Quarterly reports of the company show that this is a decrease of 28 million compared to the MVR 238 million earned in this year's first quarter.

Dhiraagu's total income also saw a decrease, with the company earning MVR 280 million in the first quarter but only MVR 251 million in the second.

During the second quarter, Dhiraagu celebrated expanding their fibre broadband services to 75 percent of the country, inaugurating a special programme by the name of 'Digital Raajje', aiming to digitalise the whole of Maldives.

Additionally, the company recently introduced Gigabit speeds of internet for the first time in the country. Currently, 10 islands can enjoy super fast internet speeds perfect for online gaming, streaming movies and downloading music, according to Dhiraagu.

Furthermore, the telecom giant now provides Wi-Fi in many parks of capital Male'. Under this service, park goers can enjoy 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi with the option of add-on packages.

Dhiraagu hosted various events in the last quarter, mostly aiming to empower the youth and conserve the environment. The company also held the "AngelHack" hackathon in collaboration with Spark Hub and Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
