According to Professor Ugail, the face-recognition system he developed, named ‘Halo’, takes only half of a second to identify faces captured by low-resolution CCTV cameras.

The presidential commission is probing a total of 24 cold cases, with the aid of foreign experts, including the murder of renowned Islamic scholar and MP Dr Afrasheem Ali.

In addition to Dr Afrasheem, the brutal murder of blogger Yameen Rasheed and the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan are also under investigation by the Commission.

The commission on Tuesday announced the search for two men in relation to the MP’s murder. Moreover, the commission has stated that the two murders and disappearance were linked.

Professor Ugail had previously offered his technology to help the murder investigation of blogger Yameen Rasheed, although former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration denied his assistance.

Residing in the UK, Professor Ugail has been utilizing his established ‘face-recognition system’ to identify people in major investigations around the world, including the murder case of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
