Parliament passes amendment to grant police access to overseas computer data

The bill was passed in Parliament with 58 members voting in favor.

Parliament passed an amendment granting Maldives Police Service the authority to access computer data stored overseas, without obtaining permission from the foreign country in which the device is located.

The amendment to the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act (Act No. 2/2015) was submitted by Holhudhoo MP Abdul Sattar Mohamed on behalf of the government.
