Maldives is still on United Kingdom (UK)'s Red list countries when it comes to travel in the pandemic.

Last week, UK's travel experts have expected Maldives to appear on "amber" or "green" list. However, UK has kept Maldives on the list of dangerous countries to travel during the pandemic despite the fact that the country has COVID situation under control now.

India, Nepal, Afghanistan, Nepal, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) are on this list, in addition Sri Lanka and Turkey.

Maldives is a nation favoured by UK citizens as a tourist destination. However, when Maldives saw a surge in COVID-19 cases from late April onwards, travel to the nation was prohibited. People entering UK from Maldives are required to quarantine for ten days now.

Even if Maldives is moved to the "Amber" list, travellers from Maldives will be required to quarantine at home for ten days. Quarantine is not required for people travelling from countries on the "Green" list.

Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, and Malaysia and Mauritius are some of the countries on UK's Green list.

Additionally, the assassination attempt of Former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed on May 6 is also cited on the UK government website as one of the reasons UK is cautioning travel into Maldives.
