Over 200 reports submitted via the government's whistleblower portal has been submitted to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

The government of Maldives established Corruption Reporting Mechanism portal in 2019 where people can anonymously tip the government on corruption within the government. Tips sent via this portal can be brought to the President's Office's attention.

Spokesperson of the President's Office Mabrook Azeez told Mihaaru news that 264 cases submitted through this portal has been sent to ACC so far. Some cases have been investigated and certain institutions have been informed to make the required improvements.

He further stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has taken action against political figures depending on ACC's investigations on certain cases as well.

Some cases submitted through the whistleblower portal were cases of wrongdoing that had taken place indirectly, or due to misunderstanding of how the system worked. The highest authorities of such institutions were informed to amend these issues.

In addition to ensuring people can anonymously whistleblow, the government has also taken steps to ensure that legal protection can be given to whistleblowers as well. A whistleblower unit was established under Human Rights Commission (HRCM) for this purpose.
