President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday met with the Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth as part of the ongoing official visit to Mauritius.

The meeting took place immediately following President Solih's call on Acting President of Mauritius Paramasivum Pillay Barlen Vyapoory.

The conversation between the President and the Prime Minister reiterated the same sentiments expressed in the former's prior meeting with the Mauritanian Acting President. They illuminated the many shared concerns between the two island nations and emphasised the necessity of increasing cooperation in all fields of mutual interest, especially on climate change and maritime issues.

President Solih thanked Prime Minister for the warm hospitality accorded to himself and his delegation by the Mauritanian government during his visit. Further, he remarked on his delight that he was invited to visit the country during the ongoing Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) to witness its many sporting events.

Both leaders noted that one of the underlying goals of the IOIG is to improve relations between the island nations of the Indian Ocean by creating an atmosphere of good-natured and friendly sporting competition. They noted that island nations should always remain mindful of the mutual challenges they face and aspire to speak with a collective voice.

Concluding the meeting, President Solih and the Mauritanian Prime Minister wished each other well and expressed optimism that bilateral relations between Maldives and Mauritius will continue to prosper.
