Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan Kentaro Sonoura, on Tuesday, paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office, the President thanked the Special Advisor for his participation and input at the Maldives Partnership Forum.

Moreover, President Solih acknowledged Japan's substantial contributions to the socio-economic development of Maldives as well as the recent grant of USD 4.5 million (JPY 500 million) to the Maldives Defence Force (MNDF).

President Solih's upcoming visit to Japan, which is scheduled for late 2019, was also discussed during the meeting.

Furthermore, President Solih extended an invitation to Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo to conduct an official visit to Maldives at a time of mutual convenience.
