Three amendments to two laws, President Elections Act and the Privileges and Protections for former Presidents Act, were submitted to the Parliament.

According to the President's Office, these amendments were submitted to fulfil the current administration's vows to review all legislation to remove any provisions which were crafted to either unduly advantage or punish an individual.

Regarding the Privileges and Provisions for Former Presidents Act, amendments were brought to provisions over stripping a former President or the First Spouse of their privileges and protections should they be convicted of a crime committed during their official term.

This provision cannot be applied retroactively and is applicable to Presidents who are convicted of a criminal offence after this legislation was enacted.

Under the proposed amendment to the Presidential Elections Act, the provision barring candidates from contesting if they sought protection from a foreign government or attained foreign citizenship for a period of fewer than 10 years prior to giving up asylum or foreign citizenship, will be removed entirely.
