Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances, on Monday, announced a search for a suspect implicated in the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
The commission requested the public to come forward with any information concerning the man depicted in the video publicized alongside the announcement.
The footage depicts the Hulhumale' ferry terminal in the capital city of Male' and the man in question can be observed waiting in queue to load a red motorcycle onto the ferry. He leaves the scene on his vehicle and boards the ferry once the gates are opened. The individual is wearing a white shirt and jeans.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) previously allowed customers to transport motorcycles to Hulhumale' aboard the ferry.
Commission President Husnu al-Suood revealed that a local extremist group affiliated with al-Qaeda murdered Rilwan.
Rilwan's whereabouts remain unknown since he was abducted in a red car on August 8, 2014, in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
The police recently conducted an operation as part of the commission's probe into the journalist's disappearance. Authorities have also seized the passports of 14 individuals concerning the case.
The presidential commission previously issued a search notice for a suspect pertaining to the murder of religious scholar Dr Afrasheem Ali.
