Speedboat captain involved in fatal incident remanded for 15 days

Police have stated that the captain of the speedboat who was arrested in relation to the death of a foreigner fishing in the sea has been remanded in custody for a period of 15 days as the investigation continues.

Police have stated that the captain of the speedboat who was arrested in relation to the death of a foreigner fishing in the sea has been remanded in custody for a period of 15 days as the investigation continues.

The captain of the speedboat was arrested in relation to the the death of the foreigner who passed away after being struck with the boat while fishing for groupers in the sea near Alif Dhaalu atoll Dhangethi yesterday morning.

The captain of the speedboat, 'My Express' of Alif Dhaalu Maamigili, has been identified as Ismail Azeez.

The victim who died in the incident is a Bangladeshi crew who worked on a boat named 'Twins' which belonged to the island of Feeali in Faafu Atoll.

Dhangethi Council President Muawiyath Rasheed described the severity of the injuries the crew sustained in the accident, stating that he had to be tied together for the transfer to the Dhangethi Health Center.

"It wouldn't be wrong to say he was cut in half, when he was brought here. Or split. The halves were nearly separate. From the ribs onwards. Torn apart, even his head," Muawiyath recalled the horrific results of the incident.

Muawiyath said that the site of the accident is often used for grouper fishing, and is also frequently used by speedboats travelling to capital Male' city.
