Swimmers, Mohamed Aan Hussain and Aishath Ulya Shaaiq, have been selected to represent the Maldives in the 2024 Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Paris, France next month.

Both athletes were selected according to the standards set by World Aquatics, the sole and exclusive world governing body for all aquatic sports.

Countries that do not have athletes qualify for the Games in swimming are offered universality spots. However, these countries do not have the authority to decide which athlete will represent them.

Since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, these spots must be secured by participating in competitions recognized by World Aquatics and earning the highest number of points.

Both Ulya and Aan earned their spots by meeting these standards.

With this, the final list of Maldivian athletes who will be competing in the 2024 Olympics is now complete. They include:

- Fathimath Dheema Ali (Table Tennis)

- Aminath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq (Badminton)

- Aishath Ulya Shaaiq (Swimming)

- Mohamed Aan Hussain (Swimming)

- Ibaadullah Adam (Athletics)

In a first for the Maldives, Dheema secured her spot at the Games by winning the qualifiers against her Sri Lankan counterpart in Nepal.

Maldives' chef de mission for Olympics this year will be Table Tennis Association of Maldives (TTAM) President Ali Rasheed.
