Mohamed Fahmy Hassan has been dismissed from the post of State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs just four days after his appointment.

Minister at the President's Office for Strategic Communications Ibrahim Khaleel has confirmed to Mihaaru News tonight that Fahmy has been removed from his position. However, the Minister declined from providing the reason for the dismissal.

Fahmy was appointed as a State Minister by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu only last Monday.

Previously, Fahmy was dismissed from the Civil Service Commission (CSC) itself and his position as President of the commission following allegations of sexually harassing a female staff member.

At the time, he appealed his dismissal at the Supreme Court, which ruled in 2013 that all the points of his dismissal decided upon by the Parliament were invalid. Subsequently, he filed for compensation at the Civil Court, which he later received after the court ruled in his favour.

After his dismissal from the CSC, he served as the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Malaysia.

The incumbent President's decision to appoint Fahmy as State Minister met with harsh criticism from the public in relation to the previous allegations of sexual harassment.
