Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) coalition have presented their presidential ticket to former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for the upcoming presidential election.
PNC leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla handed over the ticket to him at a mega function dubbed "Havaaley Watan" held by the opposition coalition in the Male' Carnival area.
PPM representatives from all islands and a large number of supporters took part in the event.
PPM and PNC's joint council decided to give Yameen the presidential ticket without a primary last month. The decision was made with the unanimous consensus of the councils of the two parties.
The opposition coalition said Yameen was the only one who could reform and develop the nation from its current situation.
Yameen currently has three charges against him at the Criminal Court; if he is found guilty of any of the charges, he will lose the opportunity to contest in the presidential election.
