Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that the regional airport in southern Raa atoll will be developed in Beriyanfaru.
While the government had previously announced plans for an airport to be developed in south Raa atoll, the exact location of the airport was not disclosed.
The President revealed the new airport’s planned venue while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Gan International Airport expansion project during his recent visit to Addu City. He emphasized the importance of developmental projects across the country for comprehensive progress.
“Interconnectivity via land, sea, and air is necessary for the Maldives to prosper towards an enhanced lifestyle… and we are conducting the [necessary developmental] projects [to achieve this]. Nationwide air connectivity is currently underwau,” President Solih said.
The government has confirmed that the regional airport in the south Raa atoll will be developed using a cross-subsidy approach.
