The management of Dhivehi Bahuge Academy has been handed over to Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Ibrahim Waheed (Ogaru Waheed).
An internal memo sent to all ministry employees on December 5 stated that Waheed was entrusted with these responsibilities to strengthen the academy's operations.
The memo said that Waheed has been in charge of the academy's work since November 26, in his capacity as a political leader.
Although the academy’s operations are being overseen by Waheed, Dr Ashraf Abdul Raheem remains the President of Dhivehi Bahuge Academy. The reason behind Waheed being given additional responsibilities over Dr Ashraf has not been disclosed.
