Former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen had decided to visit five islands in Haa Alifu atoll to strengthen Progressive Party of Maldives' (PPM) political activities and prepare for the Presidential Election of 2023.

Spokesperson of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Heena Waleed said Yameen; opposition party's presidential candidate, will be visiting Dhidhdhoo, Ihavandhoo, Kelaa, Thuraakunu and Baarah. He will be visiting Haa Alifu atoll from Wednesday, October 12, to Saturday, October 15.

The first island Yameen had visited as a presidential candidate was Dhaalu atoll Kudahuvadhoo.

Heena said one of the main tasks during Yameen's visit to Haa Alifu atoll is to seek views and opinions of the people while preparing the PPM manifesto for 2023. Focus would be on what changes are required for women, youth, in addition to fishermen and government administration sectors.

"At the same time, the visits will continue to strengthen PPM's political activities, make necessary preparations for the presidential election, identify the current issues within islands, and increase the number of members in the party," Heena said.

She said that even if they wanted to travel to all the islands of the atoll during these trips, it was not possible due to time constraints and transportation. The opportunity to meet with Yameen during his visits is open to everyone, she said.

Heena said during Yameen's administration several developmental projects were carried out in Haa Alifu atoll. Fourteen projects were carried out in Ihavandhoo from 2013 to 2018 and 16 projects were carried out in Kelaa during the same period.

She also noted that Dhidhdhoo was one of the islands with the highest number of projects undertaken during Yameen's presidency. A total of 27 projects had been started in Dhidhdhoo, 17 projects commenced in Baarah.
