A council member of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), who came to public attention during the opposition rallies held after the last presidential elections, was terminated from Maldives Ports Ltd (MPL) on Tuesday.

MPL sacked Soodha Abdulla from her position as an Assistant Officer for acting in violation of company policies despite multiple warnings.

Soodha drew public attention for her criticism of the Elections Commission (EC)'s president, Ahmed Shareef, during the protests PPM held after incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih beat his predecessor, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, with a landslide win in the presidential polls in November 2018.

PPM accused the EC chief of election fraud and Soodha gained notoriety for repeatedly shouting "EC Shareefu!" during one of the rallies, a moment that went viral on Maldivian social media.

The PPM councillor has also slammed the current administration numerous times on her social media platforms.
