Maldives Police Service arrested four people from capital Male' last Monday over possession of illegal liquor.
In a statement released Wednesday, the police revealed that their Drug Enforcement Department and Drug Intelligence conducted a joint operation on September 21 following intelligence reports.
The police confiscated 10 packets and 72 bottles of liquor, as well as 192 cans of beer, from a pickup stopped on the road Handhuvaree Hingun.
According to the police, the pickup was driven by expatriates who attempted to flee and attacked the officers when they were stopped.
The police arrested a 31-year-old Maldivian man, two Bangladeshi nationals aged 26, and another 28-year-old man during the operation.
Further investigation is underway, the police said.
