Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has been listed as a player on the Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Faresmaathoda team which will be playing in the Gold Cup, scheduled to commence on November 20.
An official of the Faresmaathoda team confirmed to Mihaaru News that the Vice President is part of the team, and said the jersey number has been assigned as well.
"The Vice President will be this team's Jersey number 23."
The VP is a dedicated football and futsal player. He has played in a number of unofficial tournaments even after having been elected as Vice President.
The Faresmaathoda team has previously made it as far as the semi-finals in the earlier Minivan Championship as well. This time, a youth squad have been selected to play.
"There are four players who have experience in the Minivan Championship. The rest are all under-23 players. This is a team being developed for the future," the official said.
The team also has two Sri Lankan players, he said. One of them is a member of the under-23 national team of Sri Lanka.
Ahmed Nashid (Naadhu) will be bringing his extensive experience to coach this team. Naadhu, who has previously coached many first division teams, will join the Faresmaathoda team when they arrive in Male' for the Gold Cup.
Gold Cup is organized by Ninety Plus with the aim of reviving the enthusiasm for football, and will see participation from 22 teams from islands and cities across the country. All matches will be broadcast live.
